STAPLE
BEE
INTRODUCTION
Staple Bee is an academic design project which comprised of research, conceptualization, CAD modeling, Rendering and prototyping. This project is about an ergonomically redesigned stapler with front load mechanism. Newly designed thumb cavity to reduce stapling pressure and index and middle finger grooves for additional support. The story behind the name "Staple Bee" is based on the looks and functionality of a honey bee.
RESEARCH
Research was carried out with people of different age group ranging from 12 to 70 with a set of questionnaire and an analysis was carried out based on those answers given by them. There were four staplers of different sizes given to the interviewies to be used and questions were asked based on the durability, grip, fit, looks, functioning, strength, ergonomics, ease of reloading and continuous usage. The analysis was carried out and the positives and negatives of each stapler was noted.
PROBLEM STATEMENTS
DESIGN BRIEF
To redesign a stapler which will fit in our hand perfectly without slipping along with which changing staples is easy and will not get your hands injured.
IDEATION SKETCHES
CAD & RENDERS
The 3D CAD modelling of the concept was done using both Solidworks and Autodesk Fusion 360 and renders were carried out using Keyshot.
PROTOTYPE
The prototyping of the thumb cavity and the finger grooves was created with the help of the clay on top of the KANGARO HD-10 stapler.
